Sweet Little Lies pulls up shinsore
The Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra stable has ended Sweet Little Lies’s two-year-old season after the filly’s unplaced effort in Thursday’s fillies’ division of the Listed Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) at Caulfield.
Sweet Little Lies showed blistering speed to score easily on debut at Caulfield on January 7 before again showing the abundant speed but failing to finish her race off when an odds-on favourite on Australia Day.
Zahra said jockey Chris Symons reported the daughter of Elusive Quality simply would not give her best in the straight before the filly finished fourth to the Mick Price-trained Malasun.
“Chris said she travelled as well as she did at her first start,” Zahra said.
“All was going well until he asked to quicken and she wouldn’t let down on the firm track.”
Zahra said an inspection of the juvenile at the team’s Flemington stable on Friday revealed Sweet Little Lies had succumbed to a common affliction among two-year-olds.
“She was very shinsore this morning when Mat got her out of the box,” Zahra said.
“She was very proppy and we knew straight away what it was. The best thing for her is to give her plenty of time to work through it so we sent her to the spelling paddock straight away.
“We’ll look after her and give her as much time as she needs and bring her back next season. We think she is going to be an exciting three-year-old and are keen to do the right thing by her.”
