De Kaap uncaps ability at Cranbourne
Ellerton Zahra Racing and Widden Stud combined for victory yet again when De Kaap Valley ran her rivals ragged at Cranbourne on Sunday.
Lucky Eighty Eight has posted seven wins, including last year’s Kyneton Cup, carrying Widden’s orange and purple colours before De Kaap Valley got in on the act at Cranbourne.
De Kaap Valley did all of the hard work to find the lead before jockey Chris Symons controlled the TAB Sportsbet Maiden Plate (1400m) before sending the daughter of General Nediym clear on the home turn.
De Kaap Valley showed no signs of stopping in the short Cranbourne straight before the filly posted a comfortable 2-1/4 length success at her sixth start.
“The form around her last couple of placings has been terrific so she really deserved that win,” co-trained Simon Zahra said.
“It took a pretty smart type (Notice Received) to beat her last time and that horse went on and bolted in at Sandown so we were pretty confident she could win.
“Chris rated her perfectly in front but she still had to finish it off and she certainly did that so we are really pleased with that.
“There are plenty of races around for her over the next few weeks so we will find something suitable for her around the same distance range.”
