Season's last runners at Geelong

Ellerton Zahra Racing will close out a remarkable season with a pair of runners at Friday’s Geelong Synthetic meeting.

Two-year-old filly Crystal Lily provided the undoubted highlight of the season with her win in the Group I Golden Slipper in April and it is fitting a pair of juveniles will finish the season for the Flemington stable.

Bella’s Cry and newcomer Lady Rohlon will be the team’s last runners of the season in the J B Scott 2YO Maiden Plate (1100m) with the stable having no runners engaged on Saturday.

Bella’s Cry goes into Friday’s $13,000 event on an upward curve after her handy third behind stablemate Invincible You at Seymour on July 18.

“She’s had two runs on heavy tracks and shown she has got ability,” co-trainer Simon Zahra said.

“We’ve been looking forward to trying her on a better track so we’ll see how she goes on the firmer synthetic surface.”

Zahra said the stable has adopted a ‘wait and see’ approach with recent acquisition Lady Rohlon who had four runs in New South Wales before moving to the Ellerton Zahra team.

“She was with Guy Walter in Sydney before one of our clients bought her to race here,” Zahra said.

“We don’t know too much about her because we haven’t had her long but we’ll see how she goes on Friday. Her work has been good but race day will tell us more.”

Leading jockey Luke Nolen will ride Bella’s Cry while Andrew Mallyon will partner Lady Rohlon.
